Allison Artis,
Visual Arts and Musical Theater
Allison Artis is a painter, performer and mentor presently
residing in Brooklyn New York. Allison was born and raised on
the Island of Trinidad and Tobago, and has completed a majority
of her schooling here in the U.S.A. She has taught various art
classes which include painting and musical theater in the New
York City Public Schools and after school programs such as
Groundwork Inc. As a teacher and mentor, she believes that
Cultural Arts can change the world by encouraging students to
express diverse feelings on identity and society through color,
music and spiritual energy. Theses expressions help to create a
stimulation of subliminal emotion and reactions of sensuality,
which becomes strongly present in each student work and
performance. Allison addresses the Idea of social Justice in her
work by using her environment as a source of inspiration while
creating. She believes that by us knowing culture, environment
and ourselves we develop the artist freedom to create from
within. Allison has exhibited her paintings in the numerous
galleries including the Rhonda Schaller Studio in Chelsea NY.
She holds an Associate in Early Childhood Education, a bachelors
of Arts in Elementary Education and a bachelor in Fine Art from
Brooklyn College. Allison is presently pursuing her Masters in
Art Therapy at The School of Visual Arts.
