Alma Moyo and The Legacy Circle are extremely excited to announce the return of Alma Moyo’s powerful Bomba Dance and Drum Classes. As 2011 brings forth the promises of new opportunities and positive growth, we look forward to continuing our cultural journey together exploring the Bomba rhythms and styles from the West and Southern Coasts of Puerto Rico.

About Bomba:
Bomba is the oldest living cultural tradition of the Caribbean, and possibly the oldest African cultural practice to exist in the Americas. Of Bantu-Kongo origin, the word Bomba means to cool off spiritually by heating up physically. Bomba is a big drum tradition where community gathers to sing, invoke ancestors, purify the spirit and fortify the soul. Students will learn improvization, song, dance, and the drum patterns of 4 different regional variants. The practice of Bomba has close connections to the musical traditions found in Guadeloupe, Martinique, Haiti, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and other Caribbean nations. Songs are in Spanish, Kreyol, and Ki-Kongo languages. For more information, contact almamoyo7@yahoo.com, 646.489.1203 or almamoyo7@yahoo.com.
